Hi there! My name is Sam, and I am a queer neurodivergent book lover. I am 37, as of writing this, and happily married with two kids and two cats. I am anti-book bans, pro-reading-is-political, and trying to navigate the difficulties of living in the United States by learning through reading nonfiction and horror.
I think reading diversely is incredibly important for building empathy and understanding. If you agree, great! Welcome! I hope you enjoy following my journey and I look forward to hearing from you in the comments. Let’s create a safe and inclusive community together.
So, what can you expect from this blog? Book reviews, book recommendations, indie bookstore highlights, and general bookish content. At this point I am pretty much exclusively reading horror, nonfiction, and children’s books, but there may be some fantasy/romantasy/romance that pops up every now and then in my reviews. My favorite subgenres of horror are paranormal, sci-fi, creature/cryptid, feminine rage, and I’m becoming more interested in maternal horror. As for nonfiction, I am currently reading a good bit on book banning as well as past and current attempts at controlling the education system here in the United States. I read a lot about social issues and, recently, about our political systems. I also read books on our environment and climate change.
What you won’t find on here are pictures or posts about my kids or husband. I believe strongly in child internet safety, and while I may talk about being a mom in relation to books, I will not be mentioning personal details about my kids or husband. You also won’t find any links to an Instagram or Goodreads account. I do still have accounts with both platforms but am not currently using them. You will, however, find a link to my Storygraph account which I love using and highly recommend as an alternative to Goodreads.
I think that about sums me up. I truly hope you enjoy reading through all the bookish content, engaging in conversations in the comments, and starting or continuing a bookish journey of your own. Happy reading!
-Sam
